Review: English Bites: My Full proof Learning Formula by Manish Gupta

English is a language which has over the time evolved again & again and has undergone a lot of changes in terms of pronunciation and other aspects regarding it. We all have read various books on English, dictionaries etc. which give wonderful insight about this popular yet curious language spoken all around the world. Author Manish Gupta in his book titled "English Bites" has tries to highlight the various aspects of the language through reading, learning and grasping some new unknown facts. So is he successful in putting his point across to the readers? Let's find out.

English Bites! My Full pro of English Learning Formula is the story of a man who goes from being tongue-tied in school to becoming a smooth- talking banker. Through a series of hilarious personal adventures and misadventures, Manish Gupta provides easy solutions to problems faced by language learners. So, whether youre a vernacular speaker, a GRE/ GMAT/CAT/XAT aspirant or just a language nut, English Bites! will expand your vocabulary and improve your verbal ability. It may even help you love the English language a little more!

  • Add over 1000 new words to your vocabulary and figure out easy and effective ways to expand your word bank.
  • Combine etymology, mnemonics, jokes and anecdotes to better your understanding of the English language.
  • Differentiate between similar sounding words and learn to use them right.
  • Improve your general knowledge with trivia that spans brand names, automobiles, fine dining, love, money, banks, science and B-school jargon.

First look at the cover and the cover image and readers won't be able to control their laughter. It's a funny cover image an ideal one for a book and to gauge the reader's interest. The title is apt for the book as it talks about English and it's various aspects. The blurb hints at it's a learner's paradise for the beginners and even for the experts and the mature ones but in a funny way. The blurb works in favor of the book as it'll help generating interest of the readers.

There's no story at all in the book. It's pure, simple narration with a great amount of coverage to words, their usage and their various meanings which has been put together by the author's experience. It's no kid's stuff to gather this much information and sum it up together in a book and the author has done that to perfection. A lot of new words are on offer for the readers. A lot of facts and figures related to the language and it's existence has been given a lot of preference in the book which helps the readers immensely. The narration is story style as the author relives his good old days to explain the dilemmas and confusions and how he managed to overcome his fears regarding the language.

The downside of the book are some portions where it'll go off track specifically a chapter titled "Dr. Pandu Piplani" which ain't of much interest. Apart from this there are no other faults in the book.

It's a book for the masses and all the classes. A perfect hand guide and help for all kinds of English readers and writers and listeners and followers. It's not a dictionary, not a thesaurus, not an encyclopedia but a great insight about things which might have escaped a reader's eye or we choose to ignore it. So put on your glasses, fasten your belts and get ready to take a splash into the world of English once again in a funny and humorous way and relive your good old days with the author.

RATINGS:
