Review: Dude, We're Screwed By Aakash Saxena

Many of us might have seen few Hollywood road trip movies. Some people might have even gone a step ahead and read quite a few. Well we have here one of our desi road trip to read about in the debut novel of author Aakash Saxena called Dude We're screwed. So how adventurous is the road trip and what all will happen along the way? Let's just buckle up and check it out.

What to take on a road trip:
  • Food
  • Luggage
  • Girlfriend
  • Cash
  • Ideas to save your ass!
What not to take on a road trip:
  • A dashing playboy
  • A hopeless romantic
  • A shy homosexual
  • A tantrum queen
  • Daughter of a psychotic Colonel
If a six-hour drive takes you nineteen, if you are in the last year of teenage and still single and if you have to run for your life, then let me hear you say Dude, We're Screwed!

The cover page as you all can see depicts some funny characters and probably a group of friends who are about to experience the most thrilling day of their life. Aakash the wittiest and the charming one, Palak the tantrum queen, Ishita a patient listener and not to forget Aakash and his mischievous group of friends who are going to relive their past in their present. The blurb will create a bit of an excitement as the bullet points will make you laugh a bit in terms of what to expect in the story.

The story starts from Ludhiana where a road trip is planned till Delhi by car and out of the blues 2 girls are tagged along without the consent of their parents. Over the top nobody ever imagines that they'll be caught in their own web of lies when Col. Dhir comes into the picture and chases them all along the trip and make their lives miserable. It's a story of humor, cries, reliving the past, standing up to the problems, some shocking moments of truth, never ending lies and a lot of guts & persuasion to stand up for their love in difficult times.
The story juggles between the past and present during it's entire length as Aakash goes back into time and rekindles some lost moments of love.

The story's flow is smooth. It juggles quite easily between the past and the present and has enough humorous elements in it. But as the title gives an impression of a story of present the past overshadows it completely at one point of time. It becomes more of a personal vendetta as the characters of the present get sidelined in the process. Aakash and his friends are the perfect example of a trio known for their antics in school and college. The few moments of glory arrive in the present when love is realized by few people in the journey. A touch of sadness also engulfs around when their road trip gets busted by the strict and the ruthless Col. Dhir. But things will get back on track soon enough as the plot picks up pace again once the entire fiasco consumes the best out of them and help some people in gaining confidence about themselves.

There are no extraordinary things to highlight in the story. It's a reminder of your old school days and your crush and things which went wrong or things which were left unsaid in the process. It's a nice story to read for the readers and can be tagged as a very light read to refresh your mood on a very bad day.

RATINGS:

3 OUT OF 5.
